I would Highly recommend Mental Health First Aid Training (MHFA)

The training course teaches people how to identify, understand and help someone who may be experiencing a mental health issue.

MHFA teaches you to listen, reassure and respond, even in a crisis – and even potentially stop a crisis from happening. You learn and issued the ALGEE Action Plan.

You’ll learn to recognise warning signs of mental ill health, and develop the skills and confidence to approach and support someone while keeping yourself safe. Helping to empower someone to access the support they might need

Research shows that a return to work interview is one of the most effective ways of managing attendance and reducing absence.

When carrying out a return to work interview we would recommend you cover the following points:

– Welcome employees back and ensure they are well enough to work.

– Update employees about any changes that have happened during their absence.

– Identify any workplace adjustments that may be needed.

– Develop or discuss the details of your return to work plan.

– Confirm that their absence record is correct.

– Offer them the opportunity to discuss any other issues that you/they may need help with.

– Reinforce the company sickness policy, where you can discourage unauthorised and non-genuine sickness absence.

When conducting the return to work interview we recommend that:

– These are always done face to face, although they don’t need to be overly formal.

– Make sure you listen to your employee.

– Show interest in what they say and take their concerns on board.

– Be objective – son’t be influenced by personal emotion or feelings.

– Ask open ended questions to encourage them to open up and talk.

– Try hard to make them feel comfortable and relaxed.

1) Provide healthy snacks and drinks in the office so staff to snack on during breaks and lunch …. ideally away from their work stations.

2) Encourage staff to be active during the work week. Ideas could include working out a corporate gym membership, subsidising gym membership/classes or bringing in a yoga teacher at lunchtimes.

3) Make your office greener with plants and flowers.

4) Declutter the workplace making it a lighter, brighter and more attractive workplace.

5) Provide in-office health checks annually to promote healthy living.

6) Offer flexible working practices if the business allows it to include flexi-time, making sure staff take holiday time and allow working remotely.

7) Offer training and workshops to allow development as well as demonstrating your investment and commitment to them as employees.

8) Promote charity and fundraising work in the community.

9) Create technology-free and chill-out zones where staff can relax with music, books and even a 15 minute power nap.

10) Monthly massage treatments by a mobile therapist will reduce stress and leave employees feeling refreshed and well looked after.

We understand that not all of this is possible, but why not introduce one or two of these ideas into the business as a starting point and find out how investing in your employees wellbeing can also be a huge benefit for your organisation too.
